Us women
I have always been this
rebellious, recalcitrant girl against the patriarchal society of our country.
Always retaliated when I was asked to serve in the kitchen along with my
grandmother, while my brothers were given an OK to play in the lawn. Always
disapproved when I was told to become tough and hardy as my brother. And I
still retaliate when my mother frowns at my choice of clothes. Why? Why does it
have to be this way? Why are we women always treated as the weaker section of
the society? Why is it always women who adjust according to the impositions of
society? Why are we women always, and always devalued?
We, women, are the most
substantial creatures on this earth. We are not just confined to the household
chores but outstand men in the exterior arena as well. And when I talk about
women, I am not just talking about those who come from the privileged sections
of the society, there are women from the under-privileged and minority
sections, who have fought against the odds, challenged themselves, and overcame
uncountable adversities.
Today, our society,
dominated by chauvinists has unremembered the worthiness of this exquisite
species. They have neglected the verity that women are the ones who bring them
to this world. Respecting a woman is not a choice to make, it is a part of
one’s moral conduct.
So, to all the men, who
satirize women or treat them as mere sex objects, you all are raised by a woman
and are or will be married to one. Women are an indispensable part of your
lives, so if this is your approach towards them, it won’t get you any far.”
